To apply, I had to write a motivation letter answering the question: “Why do you want to travel to the US, and why should we choose you?” So that’s exactly what I did — although I have never really expected to win. To my surprise, I was invited to an interview because I had made it to the final selection round. During the interview, they asked me questions on a variety of topics, including German history and politics. That same evening, I received an email: I had won!

I still can’t believe it: I’m going to America!
